Three resolutions concerning sidewalk improvements to Route 34 are on tonight's agenda. Aberdeen Township previously received a $160,000 grant from the 2010 Local Aid Infrastructure Fund Act and the original limits of the improvement project consisted of installing new concrete sidewalk from the municipal boundary to the existing sidewalk near South Atlantic avenue.

According to Resolution No. 2011-140, the New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) required additional curb and guard rail upgrades the increased te cost above the township's budgeted amount for the project. The resolution states that in response, the township has reduced the limits of the Route 34 Sidewalk Improvements project to consist of approximately 1,500 feet of 4-foot wide concrete sidewalk from Brookview Lane to existing sidewalk approximately south of South Atlantic Avenue.

Sea Wall Project

Aberdeen previously received grants from Monmouth County's Municipal Open Space Program and Community Development Block Grant Program for improvements to the Sea Wall. In June of 2010, the township awarded a contract to B&B Construction, LLC of Howell in the amount of $472,885.00. Resolution No. 2011-137, which is on tonight's agenda, reduces the amount allotted to the project by $88,413.00, to a total contract amount of $384,472.00. The resolution states that the reduction brings the cost of the project within the amount of funds available through grants.

Re-examination of Train Station Redevelopment Area

According to Resolution 2011-134, which is on tonight's agenda, in July of 1999 the Aberdeen Township Planning Board authorized Coppola & Coppola Associates to complete a study to determine whether or not the township-owned properties surrounding the Aberdeen-Matawan Train Station should be designated as in need of redevelopment. In August of that same year, the planning board recommended the site for redevelopment. Tonight's resolution authorizes the planning board to conduct another study, since over ten years has passed since the original study.
