Aberdeen Man Charged With Sex Assault Of 2 Minors In North Carolina

ABERDEEN, NJ — An Aberdeen Twp. man who previously worked as as track coach in Basking Ridge was arrested Nov. 7 in Aberdeen, and is currently in jail in North Carolina, on charges that he sexually assaulted two minors there.

William Alston, 34, was arrested on child sex charges after a two-month-long investigation by the sheriff in Onslow County, North Carolina. Two female juvenile victims in North Carolina accused Alston of sexually assaulting them.

However, accusations against Alston were also made in Aberdeen, which Aberdeen Police are currently investigating, said the Onslow County Sheriff.

"The Aberdeen Police Department are conducting a parallel criminal investigation related to offenses alleged to have occurred in their jurisdiction by Alston," said the sheriff's office.

North Carolina law enforcement worked with Aberdeen Police and U.S. Marshals to locate and apprehend Alston. He was extradited to North Carolina Wednesday, and is currently being held in the Onslow County Detention Center.

He is criminally charged with one count of statutory sexual offense with a child by an adult and four counts of indecent liberties with children, the Onslow County Sheriff announced on their Facebook page.

Alston previously worked as the assistant track coach at Ridge High School in Basking Ridge, according to the Bernards Township School District website. He also previously worked as an instructional aide at Ridge High School in 2021-'22.
