Aberdeen: Excess Aberdeen Day Sponsorships Will Fund Fire Training System

The following is an announcement from Aberdeen Township:

Sponsorships and a variety of other opportunities continue to be available for local businesses and organizations for the redesigned Aberdeen Day celebration on Saturday, September 22.

Under a plan developed by the Aberdeen Economic Business Council, sponsorship funds raised in excess of the cost of producing Aberdeen Day will go towards the purchase of a state-of-the-art training system for use by the township’s Fire Department when they provide fire extinguisher instruction to area businesses and schools.

Each year, members of Aberdeen’s two volunteer fire companies visit area businesses and schools to provide training in the use of fire extinguishers. Schools are required to undergo this type of training; the instruction is optional for businesses. Currently, the fire department employs an older training system that is considered dated by today’s standards.

The new system, HOTSHOT™, a product of BullEx Digital Safety, offers fire extinguisher training with digital flames that allow workers to train in the actual work environment, where live-fire instruction may not be possible. Because every fire situation is different, HOTSHOT™ allows users to create realistic training scenarios in any environment.

According to Aberdeen Economic Business Council chairman Carmine Visone, the system will cost approximately $12,000 to $13,000 to purchase.

“During one of our monthly meetings, members of the Business Council who had already been working to raise funds for Aberdeen Day, began discussing ways in which any excess funds from this year’s celebration could be used to help the community,” explained Visone, who co-owns the Home Away From Home Academy on Route 34.

“We all agreed that the purchase of this new, very necessary system for the Fire Department would be a worthwhile goal for Aberdeen Day 2012,” he added.

He added that members of the Business Council and Township Council will be on hand during Aberdeen Day to accept monetary donations from the public to help pay for the equipment.

Businesses who have yet to participate in Aberdeen Day can still take advantage of a variety of sponsorship opportunities designed to fit all budgets. The sponsor packages offer exposure prior to and during Aberdeen Day, including mentions on the township website, and in press releases, advertising and on signage at the event.

Additionally, openings are still available for vendor tables or booths at the primary Matawan Regional High School venue.

All donations are tax deductible.
