Joan Magerkurth, 76, of Matawan

Joan Magerkurth, 76, of Matawan, passed away peacefully on April 27, 2012, surrounded by her loving family. She was born Joan Lesho in Dixon City, Pennsylvania and grew February 9, 1936 - April 27, 2012 up in the Ironbound section of Newark, New Jersey. She graduated from East Side High School in 1953.

Joan was a proud member of the synchronized swimming team sponsored by the City of Newark and performed at various venues throughout the North East. She held secretarial positions at Paul B. Williams, Inc. of Newark, New Jersey, and for Dr. Mark Engel in Holmdel, New Jersey, after moving to Matawan, New Jersey 46 years ago to raise her family.

She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, friend and neighbor. Joan was well known in the community and was always willing to listen, and to give support and help. She will be sadly missed but never forgotten.

Joan was predeceased by her parents John and Anna Lesho and her brother Leonard Lesho. Joan is survived by her high school sweetheart and beloved husband of 50 years, William Magerkurth, her loving daughter Ann Unsinn and her husband Timothy of Fair Haven, New Jersey, her brother Edward Lesho and his wife Josephine of Linden, New Jersey, her sister in laws Margaret Lesho of Virginia Beach, Virginia, and Julia Magerkurth of Manchester, New Jersey. Joan was the proud grandmother of Emily and Becky Unsinn of Fair Haven, New Jersey and aunt to many nieces and nephews. Joan will be dearly missed by her many close friends who were touched by her love.

Family and friends are invited to visit on Tuesday May 1, 2012 from 7 to 9 PM and Wednesday May 2, from 7:45 to 8:30 AM at the Shore Point Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 3269 State Route 35 North in Hazlet, New Jersey 07730. Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Wednesday May 2, 2012 at 9:00 AM at St Lawrence Roman Catholic Church, 109 Laurence Parkway, Laurence Harbor, New Jersey 08879. In respect of Joan's wishes she will be privately cremated. Interment will be private at a later date. In lieu of flowers to the American Cancer Society or the St. Vincent de Paul Society at St. Benedict R. C. Church 165 Bethany Road, Holmdel, New Jersey 07733 in her memory would be appreciated.
