Obituary: Karl Albert Frantz, 94, of Keyport

Karl Albert Frantz, businessman and longtime resident of Keyport, died at his home on Sunday, July 8, 2012. He was 94.

Karl was born on April 13, 1918 to Karl Augustus Frantz and Alberta Gildersleeve Frantz in New Brunswick. He graduated from high school in Wilkes Barre, PA, where his grandfather operated a lumber yard. Karl was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army in 1944 and then went on to graduate from Monmouth College. He married Margaret Mary Delaney of Union Beach. They later moved to Keyport.

Karl ran his own construction business for several years and then worked as a dock builder. An avid boater and fisherman, Karl was a member of the Keyport Yacht Club. He was also an active member of the Holiday Beagle Club, raising Beagles for field trials, and even finishing a Field Champion. Karl took up golfing later in life, often playing 2 or 3 times a week.

Karl was predeceased by his loving wife of 65 years, Margaret. He is survived by a sister, Virginia Frantz Poling of Minneapolis, MN; his daughters, Marguerite Miller of Anderson, SC, and Carole Grabowski of Keyport; and his son, Robert Frantz of Princeton. Also surviving are 7 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. He will be greatly missed, but never forgotten.

Mr. Frantz will be laid to rest next to his wife, Margaret, on Wednesday, July 11 at 11:45 a.m. at Fair View Cemetery, Middletown, following a graveside service. Family and friends of Karl and Margaret are invited to attend a memorial service to be held in their honor on Saturday, August 18 at 2 p.m. at their home, 48 Walnut St., Keyport. Refreshments will be served immediately following the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to the Alzheimer's Organization (www.alz.org) or the Keyport First Aid, P.O. Box 168, Keyport, NJ 07735.
