
Susan Marie (Markheim) Roma, 65, of Cliffwood section of Aberdeen Twp., died Monday, March 26, 2012 at her home.
Born in New Brunswick, Susan was raised in Spotswood before settling in the Matawan/Cliffwood area in the early 70’s. Susan graduated Newark State College (now Kean University) with her undergraduate degree in Education. She later received her Masters Degree in Fine Arts from Kean University. She also received an Associates Degree in Graphic and Computer Arts from Brookdale Community College. She retired in 2009 from the Marlboro Middle School, where she was an Art Teacher for more than 30 years. While quiet, Susan was a very generous, caring and giving person, who enjoyed expanding her personal horizons. She enjoyed her many trips to California to visit her son and to enjoy driving to many new places. Susan was also a poet and a very talented artist, whose work is now part of the permanent collection at the National Museum of Women in the Arts in Washington, DC.
Predeceased by her father, Sigmund Markheim, she is survived by her son, Peter Matthew Romaskiewicz and his companion Camille Savedra, of Goleta, CA; her mother Marie J. Markheim of Monroe Twp., and; her siblings, Richard Markheim and his wife Jane of Winter Garden, FL, Nancy Phillips and her husband Nick of Belle Meade and, Mark Markheim of Sag Harbor, NY.

Funeral services and a Liturgy of Christian Burial will begin at 9:45 AM Saturday from Spotswood Funeral Home, 475 Main Street, Spotswood, with a private cremation to follow. The family will receive friends on Friday from 2:00 to 4:00 PM and 7:00 to 9:00 PM at the Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, donations honoring Susan’s memory are encouraged to be made to the Women’s Studio Workshop at P.O. Box 489 Rosendale, NY 12472, Attn: Sandra, or online at www.wsworkshop.org.
