Crack a Book Between the Covers with the Matawan Aberdeen Library

Cozy up with a book for a weekly chance to win raffle prizes - and a sweet new tote bag

It's not too late to crack a book between the covers with the . Or, if you're feeling rebellious, to swipe through the electronic pages of your eReader.

The Adult Summer Reading Club officially kicked off at the library on Saturday, June 16, but all adults from Matawan and Aberdeen (that includes Cliffwood and Cliffwood Beach too) are invited to join until the program ends on Friday, Aug. 10.

The theme this summer is "Between the Covers" (of a book, of course!) with a focus on nighttime.

When you join the reading club you will be assigned a number and you’ll receive a new tote bag, courtesy of the Friends of the Library, to carry around your library books.

Each time you return a book or audiobook you will be given a ticket for the weekly raffle. Write your assigned number on the ticket, drop it in the jar, and every Monday we will draw a ticket and the winner will receive a fun prize. At the end of summer all the tickets will be put back in the jar for a chance to win the Grand Prize!

In celebration of this year’s theme we will host several nighttime events, including:

  • Monday, July 9 at 7 p.m.
Enjoy a presentation by a New Jersey author, Louis Coppola, who will give an anecdotal look at his years of service to a major television network while discussing his publication, CBS: The Chucklehead Broadcasting System, Celebrating 44 Years of Glorified Insignificance
  • Thursday, July 26 at 7 p.m.
Rebecca Reel Quilters will introduce newcomers to the art of quilting. They’ll display different quilting designs and discuss what it takes to create a beautiful quilt.
  • In addition, check out the website for the monthly After Hours Music programs, educational programs, and much more!

All events are free of charge but registration is required. To register, stop by the library, call Jill at 732-583-9100, or email Jill at jstafford@lmxac.org.

Finally, the library is hosting a digital photography contest: "Matawan or Aberdeen @ Night." The contest rules and submission guidelines can be found at http://www.lmxac.org/mata/contest.html
