Patch asked how social media platforms, websites and apps can tell when a file contains underage sex images, but a spokesman for the prosecutor said he could not answer that.

The prosecutor says Decesare had been distributing child sex abuse materials via social media to other users. Police say he also received similar images on his personal email account.
