Multiple Students Recognized for Accomplishments

Art, science, singing and research put these students in the spotlight

Several students were recognized for their accomplishments Monday night at the Matawan Aberdeen Regional School District's Board of Education meeting.

Here are a few highlights:

  • Eleven students were honored for making the cut for the All Shore Chorus and for their formal performance in February. The All Shore Chorus is a highly competitive vocal group composed of 140 of the best singers from Monmouth and Ocean counties who must undergo a vigorous audition to earn a spot.
  • Matthew Tomasello, a Matawan Regional High School senior and the student representative for the Board of Education, received the National Forensic League Academic All-American Award. Students selected for this award must be a National Forensic League Speech & Debate member with an earned degree of Superior Distinction, a 7.7 or higher GPA, 2000 or higher on their SAT and display leadership, strong character and commitment.
  • Twenty-seven third graders from were recognized for the hard work on projects for the annual research fair. Children used laptops to to research non-fiction topics such as famous people, innovators, science or inventors. They created brochures, diaries or books to add character to their project. 
  • MRHS artists recently participated in the Memory Project, where students were tasked with creating a portrait for an orphan of their choosing from an orphanage in Ecuador.
