- Pallone: 154,208 55.8 percent of the vote
- Fegler: 112,892 40.9 percent of the vote
- Tarbous: 3,547 1.3 percent of the vote
- Akhtar: 4,103 1.5 percent of the vote
Pallone has represented New Jersey's 6th Congressional District for the past 36 years, since he was first elected to Congress in 1988. Every two years, a Republican challenges Pallone, but has been unable to unseat him. This year it was Fegler. Two years ago, former Hazlet Mayor Sue Kiley (R) tried to unseat Pallone from Congress and failed, (106,238 votes for Pallone, 75,839 for Kiley).
Fegler and Pallone differ on a wide number of issues: Fegler is a strong supporter of former President Donald Trump, whereas Pallone voted twice for Trump to be impeached. They also differ on immigration, energy — specifically wind turbines off the Jersey Shore, which Pallone supports and Fegler is against — and economic policy.
