Man Fatally Shot By Police Officer In Old Bridge Monday: AG

A man was killed in a police-involved shooting near Cheesequake State Park Monday afternoon, said the NJ Attorney General.

LAURENCE HARBOR, NJ — A man was killed in a police-involved shooting Monday afternoon in the Laurence Harbor section of Old Bridge, spurring an investigation from the New Jersey Attorney General.

According to the preliminary investigation, Old Bridge Police responded to a 911 call regarding a dispute on Woodland Avenue at approximately 3:09 p.m. Monday. Woodland Avenue is a residential street about half a mile away from Cheesequake State Park.

One man was shot and transported to Old Bridge Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 4:47 p.m., the Attorney General’s Office said.

Only the adult man and one police officer were involved in the encounter.

The identity and age of the man who was killed and the officer were not immediately made public Tuesday morning. The Attorney General also did not release any further details about how the fatal shooting occurred.

An investigation is ongoing. The state Attorney General’s Office of Public Integrity and Accountability opens an investigation anytime a fatal police-involved shooting is reported.

No further information is being released at this time, the attorney general’s office said.
