TELL US: How Badly Do You Want July 4 Fireworks in Matawan?

Another Independence Day is quickly approaching and for the third year in a row, there will be no fireworks to celebrate in Matawan.

Matawan Recreation Director Deirdre Ring said the borough tried hard to plan a fireworks show but the cost was just too high. The cost of a show can vary based on the length and amount of fireworks, however Ring estimates the borough would need between $8,000 and $10,000.

She wants to know how badly the people of Matawan want the fireworks to return. Are you willing to donate or fund raise to make July 4 fireworks a reality in 2013? Vote in our poll and share your comments below.

If there is a strong enough response, Ring said, she will look further into how the community can pitch in.
