Three Brooklyn Men Arrested on Shoplifting Charges After Fleeing CVS in Aberdeen

Three Brooklyn men were charged with shoplifting and resisting arrest by the Aberdeen Township Police Department after an incident on Thursday at the on South Atlantic Avenue.

According to police, CVS employees at the South Atlantic location were notified by employees at the Old Bridge store that a group of men had attempted to steal merchandise from them.

At about 7 p.m. on Thursday, according to Chief John Powers, Aberdeen police were called to CVS after men fitting the description from Old Bridge entered the store and allegedly began taking and concealing merchandise from the shelves valued at over $1,700.

According to police, when P.O. Brian Alberti, P.O. John Zeller, and P.O. Christopher DeSarno arrived at CVS, two individuals fled out a back door, got into a Nissan Maxima parked near Clearview Cinemas, and drove south on Highway 34.

Police followed the vehicle, according to Powers, which pulled into the rear lot of a commercial building where P.O. DeSarno attempted to take the suspects into custody. Four individuals fled on foot, climbing over a fence into a wooded area in Matawan Borough.

Three of the men were arrested with the assistance of Sgt. Raymond Sosa, P.O. Roger Peter, P.O. Raymond Campbell, and Matawan Ptl. Chris Stark and Ptl. Joe Dzwil. The fourth suspect remained at large, according to Powers.

The three men arrested were identified as Anthony L. Williams, 23, of Flushing Ave., Brooklyn, NY; Tyrike L. Dario, 19, of Lexington Ave., Brooklyn, NY; and Sean Jenkins, 33, of Quiacy Ave., Brooklyn, NY. 

In addition to the shoplifting and resisting charges, Jenkins was charged with hindering his own apprehension after he gave police a false name, according to Powers. Jenkins was wanted on a parole warrant out of New York.  His bail was set at $45,000 no 10%. 

Williams’ bail was set at $35,000 with no 10% option and Dario’s bail was set at $15,000 with no 10% option. All were committed to the Monmouth County Correctional Institution in default of bail. 

The Nissan was seized pending forfeiture proceedings.
