Trailer Breaks Loose, Hits 5 Cars On Rt. 9 In Sayreville Thursday

SAYREVILLE, NJ — A total of six vehicles were involved in a major accident early Thursday morning on Rt. 9 in Sayreville, causing hours-long delays on Rt. 9 in both directions.

The crash occurred at 5:45 a.m. when a construction trailer broke loose from a truck and collided with at least five other vehicles, according to News 12.

This happened on Rt. 9 south, according to the Sayreville Office of Emergency Management.

As of 9 a.m., Rt. 9 south is now open, but the left lane remains closed.

Rt. 9 south at the Edison Bridge remains closed, said Sayreville OEM. Please avoid the area and plan alternate routes.
