$1.1M Fire Truck Purchase Approved By Chester Council

Fire & Safety Services, Ltd. of South Plainfield was awarded the purchase contract for $1,116,554.62.

CHESTER, NJ — The purchase of a new Pierce Tandem Pumper Truck for $1.1 million was officially approved by the Township Council during a special meeting last week.

In accordance with the initial proposal, which was dated Oct. 3, 2022, the purchase contract was awarded to Fire & Safety Services, Ltd. of South Plainfield.

The township will contribute $900,000 to the total approved price of $1,116,554.62 for the acquisition, according to the council.

The purchase was approved 3-0, with Councilmen John Butkus, Joseph Di Paolo, and Michael Inganamort voting in favor. Mayor Marcia Asdal and Councilman Tim Drag were both absent.

The new truck, according to officials, will replace a fire engine that is in its 40th year of service but was refurbished in 1997.

The Chester Volunteer Fire Company has been an all-volunteer, non-profit organization since 1921. They currently have more than 50 active members who contribute more than 6,700 man hours annually.

The CVFC recently celebrated its 100th year of serving the Chester community in 2021.
