Ice Skating At Mud Hole

  • Where: Mountain Valley Park Pond, Mendham
  • When: Mountain Valley Park Pond (Mud Hole) opens for skating when weather and ice conditions permit. Signs will be posted to let residents know if the ice is of sufficient depth for skating.
  • What: Skaters should be advised that they are skating at their own risk. The activity is prohibited when “no skating signs” are up around the pond.

New Year's Senior Brunch

  • Where: Mendham Township Town Hall, 2nd Floor
  • When: Jan. 15, 9:30 to 11 a.m.
  • What: Mendham Township Recreation invites all Mendham area seniors to its New Year's Senior Brunch! Join us for a delicious brunch, followed by chair yoga and a few rounds of Bingo. (free to all seniors)

Winter Pruning Demonstration

  • When: Jan. 17 1 to 4 p.m.
  • What: “Come learn how to identify fruit buds vs. vegetative buds, get the basics of fruit tree pruning, and receive personal feedback if you bring photos of your own backyard trees.”

Apple Wassailing Brunch

  • Where: Alstede Farms, Chester
  • When: Jan. 18, 10 a.m.
  • What: Apple-themed brunch, historic orchard tradition, family-style dining

Sourdough Workshop

  • Where: Mendham Township Library
  • When: Jan. 29, 7 p.m.
  • What: Join Sophie Curtis of Sour Bellies as she explores the world of sourdough bread. This hands-on workshop will offer sourdough bread education, tips, tricks and tastes. Each participant will leave with their own jar of sourdough starter.

Scherman Hoffman Wildlife Sanctuary – Nature Trails & Bird Watching

  • Where: 11 Glenside Ave, Bernardsville, NJ 07924
  • When: Open Tuesday to Saturday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Sunday noon to 5 p.m.
  • What: Wander winter trails at this Audubon sanctuary right in town — ideal for easy hikes, wildlife spotting, and fresh air on crisp days. See website for sanctuary hours; note that the building is closed on holidays. Trails are open seven days a week from dawn to dusk, and visitors should park in the lower lot after 5 p.m.
