Who's On The Mendham, Chester Ballots And Where To Vote

The general election is Tuesday, Nov. 8. Check out our voter guide before you cast your ballot.

MENDHAM/CHESTER, NJ — Election Day is coming up on November 8, and both Mendham and Chester residents will be going to the polls to vote in a variety of races. Here’s what you need to know about voting in Mendham and Chester.

In Mendham Borough, current Mayor Christine Serrano Glassner is vying to keep her seat against Democratic challenger Melissa Rawley Payne.

Voters will also be voting for two members of the Mendham Borough Council. Four candidates are running for the two open seats: James R. Kelly, Neil Sullivan, Melissa Young and Melissa Wojcik.

In the race for the Mendham Borough seat on the West Morris Regional High School District Board of Education, incumbent board member Thomas R. Brooks is being challenged by Gino Grieco, running under the "Educational, Fiscal Leadership" slogan.

In the local school board race, four candidates are vying for the three open seats on the Mendham Borough school board. Incumbents Barry Haines and James Gillespie are running for re-election and are being challenged by John E. Vitale and Margery St. John.

In Mendham Township, four candidates are running for the two open seats on the township committee. Thomas Baio, Tracey Moreen, Lauren Spirig and Martin Slayne are all running for three-year terms.

For the local school board race, four candidates are also vying for the three open board seats in Mendham Township. Incumbents Joan Mody, Andrew Christmann, and Rochelle Abraham are all running for re-election and are being challenged by Diana Orban Brown, who is running under the "Transparency For Taxpayers" slogan.

In Chester Borough, Mayor Janet Hoven is running uncontested for the Republican nomination. Similarly, Republican council members, Russell Goodwin and Karen Ferrone are looking for the nod and another term serving Chester.

In the year 2023, Chester Township will have a new mayor. Current Mayor Marcia Asdal has declined to run for re-election, but sitting council member Michael Inganamort has decided to run for the Republican nomination to succeed her.

In the race for the seat representing Chester Township in the West Morris Regional High School District Board of Education incumbent board member Michael J Golabek is being challenged by Peter J. Pappas.

In Chester, eight candidates are vying for four open seats on the local school board. Six candidates have filed for the three-year term, and two are running for an unexpired one-year term.

On the county level, Mendham and Chester voters will choose candidates for the Morris County Board of County Commissioners. There are six candidates running for three seats, each for a three-year term: Doug Cabana, Judith Hernandez, Tom Mastrangelo, Thomas "TC" McCourt, Christine Myers and Baramdai "Alicia" Sharma.

Mendham and Chester voters will also get to cast a ballot for a member of the U.S. House of Representatives. The county is split between the 11th district and the 7th district. In the 11th district, incumbent Mikie Sherrill (Democratic Party) faces a challenge from Paul DeGroot (Republican Party) and Joseph Biasco (Independent).

HOW TO VOTE

Election Day takes place on Tuesday, Nov. 8. There are three ways to turn in your ballot for the 2022 general election in New Jersey.

Vote By Mail – Every active registered voter is eligible to request a vote-by-mail ballot. If you would like to receive your ballot by mail, you must request your ballot not less than seven days before an election. Otherwise, you must get your vote-by-mail ballot in-person from your county clerk by 3 p.m. the day before Election Day. Voters have until 8 p.m. on Election Day to return their ballot to the Board of Elections in person, or deposit it in one of their county’s authorized ballot drop boxes. You can also mail your ballot; it must be postmarked on or before 8 p.m. on Election Day.

Vote In-Person (Early) – New Jersey passed a law in 2021 that allows residents to vote early during a nine-day period before Election Day. For the 2022 general election, the early voting period takes place from Oct. 29 to Nov. 6. Hours are from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday to Saturday, and from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday). In Morris County, early voting locations are in the following municipalities: Boonton Township, Morris Plains, Denville, Whippany, Madison, Morristown, Mount Olive and Mount Arlington (see a full list and addresses here).

Vote In-Person (on Election Day) – The 2022 general election takes place on Tuesday, Nov. 8. Polls will be open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Find your location polling place here.
