Chester Equestrian Center Fined For Violating Labor Laws: Officials

The horseback riding facility is on a list of businesses who owe the state or employees money for failing to pay wages, benefits, and taxes.

CHESTER, NJ — An equestrian center in Chester must pay $45,000 for violating state labor laws, according to the New Jersey Department of Labor.

As of Feb. 5, a total of 120 businesses were listed on the Department of Labor's Workplace Accountability in Labor List (WALL) for violations of wage, benefit, and tax laws. The list is updated monthly, and businesses on the WALL currently owe a combined $13.5 million in liabilities for violations of wage, benefit or tax laws.

The state passed legislation creating the WALL in 2020, and it went live in Sept. 2023. Businesses on the list are not able to engage in any contracts with the state, including state agencies, counties, and local government bodies.

The most recent WALL list includes Chester Riding Club, LLC, which the state said violated the Worker's Compensation Law — specifically, section R.S. 34:15-1, which covers employees' right to recover for negligent injury.

The Department of Labor says it notifies businesses that their name will be posted on the WALL 15 days from the date at the top of the notice.
