Chester Nonprofit Has Been Dedicated To Seniors For 25 Years

The nonprofit serves thousands of seniors, as well as their caregivers and families, annually.

CHESTER, NJ — A local nonprofit organization that strives to assist senior NJ citizens recently celebrated 25 years of dedicated service.

The Senior Resource Center of New Jersey, located on Route 24 in Chester, provides seniors with “physical activity, mental stimulation, camaraderie, and fun” to guide and support them in their twilight years.

The center serves residents 55 and older, as well as their families and caregivers, across four New Jersey counties. Launched in 2000, the nonprofit now helps more than 6,800 participants annually.

“If I had to describe my feelings about the Senior Resource Center (SRC) in one word, it would be ‘Gratitude.’ Over the past two years, as the Program Director at SRC, I have felt immensely thankful to hold this position. Each day, I come to SRC and appreciate the strong sense of community fostered by our members,” said Program Director Lisa Sibelman. “The environment is one of care and camaraderie, whether during exercise programs or educational sessions. The SRC has become a second home for many of our members, promoting a spirit of fellowship and resulting in numerous friendships. Personally, the Senior Resource Center has provided me with a deep sense of fulfillment by knowing that I am making a difference in so many of my fellow seniors’ lives.”

The establishment offers an array of activities for NJ seniors, including:

  • Nine weekly wellness and fitness classes
  • Weekly walking club
  • Music programs
  • A quilting class
  • Specialty classes,
  • Lunch-N-Learn programs
  • Monthly educational coffee hours

The nonprofit is supported by several outside organizations, including AARP, United Way Caring for Caregivers (United Way 211), Care2Caregivers, Atlantic Health Care, and county, regional, and state resources, as well as advocacy groups.

The group is also funded by its own events, including the upcoming Festival of Trees from Dec. 6 to Dec. 13. Check back with Patch for more information on the event as it approaches.
