Senior Chester Dressage Rider Has Reached 'Century Club' Status
Laureen Alcock and her horse "Gryphon" are expected to receive the distinct honor of entering the Dressage Foundation's Century Club.
CHESTER, NJ - When a dressage rider and their horse’s ages add up to 100 or greater, it unlocks the opportunity for them to be a part of the Dressage Foundation Century Club.
This is the case for Laureen Alcock, 76 and her horse Gryphon, 26, according to the Dressage Foundation, a non-profit group based in Nebraska that supports dressage riding.
According to spokesperson Sara Weiss of the Dressage Foundation, Alcock and Gryphon will be inducted on Oct. 10 during a Dressage Show in Bedminster at Red Tail Farm.

For their Century Club achievement, the duo will receive a ribbon and plaque, with family and friends invited to celebrate Alcock’s and Gryphon’s honor.
The Century Club, which currently has 515 members and is only open to those from North America, according to the foundation's website and news release, was established in 1996 as a way to keep more senior riders involved in dressage riding.

“Dressage” the foundation indicates, comes from the French “to train,” with dressage events, including those at the Olympics levels for men and women, “both a method of training horses and a competitive sport,” which helps horses to “develop correct movement.”
