Democrat Seeks Spot On Mendham Twp. Committee

Longtime resident throws hat into the ring as two seats are up for grabs in 2016.

MENDHAM TWP., N.J. – Peter Dumovic has lived in Mendham Township for 20 years and held numerous volunteer positions on boards and committees in town.

Now he’s trying his hand at politics.

The longtime resident has announced his candidacy for Mendham Township Committee, which has two incumbents up for re-election: Maribeth Thomas and Samuel Tolley.

Dumovic, however, is unlike most Mendham Township Committee members and candidates in decades past: he’s affiliated with the Democratic Party.

The Australian-born husband and father of two is a Pharmaceutical Consultant and Editor of an international journal on Medical Marketing with extensive domestic and international business experience in the Biopharmaceutical industry.

Locally Dumovic has volunteered his time as the first male Chair of the Parent-Teacher Organization at West Morris Mendham High School from 2011 to 2013; Chair of the school’s International Baccalaureate Boosters Club; member of the Friends Of Pitney Farm; and member of the Board of Trustees of the Mendham Township Library.

"I am fortunate to live in Mendham Township, with its small town charm, traditional character and strong sense of family and community,” Dumovic said in a statement. “Yet we are not without our share of challenges. I believe my background and approach will serve our community well and will bring a different perspective to the Township Committee. I also think one party control is unhealthy, because it does not provide open governance. If elected, I will call for discussion, debate and compromise to collectively solve problems in our community. I strongly believe in communication and accountability, and will bring a fact-based constructive focus to any issue. Furthermore, I will champion timely, common sense solutions to address the concerns of my fellow residents. I feel it is equally important to look at issues from both a short and long-term perspective, in order to ensure that Mendham Township retains its sense of community and remains a special and preferred place to live - not just for us but also for future generations.”

The June Primary Election will be held Tuesday, June 7, 2016. Polls are open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. If no other Democratic challengers file to be on the ballot, Dumovic will then earn a position on the November ballot with just a single vote in the Primary.

The November General Election will be held Tuesday, Nov. 8, 2016.
