First Ever 'Service of Remembrance' Set to Honor Late Chester, Mendham First Responders

Oct. 18 event will be held at St. Luke's Parish in Long Valley.

In Mendham, Chester, and Long Valley, fire and first aid personnel are all volunteers.

As if that’s not enough to be lauded for their efforts, these residents leave their homes, families, and jobs to help their neighbors 365 days a year.

But when they’re gone they are, sadly, often forgotten.

Because of that, the Chester First Aid Squad has teamed up with Father Mike Drury of St. Luke’s Parish in Long Valley to organize the first-ever Service of Remembrance to honor emergency medical service and fire personnel who have died.

Drury, the chaplain for all those organizations in Long Valley, the Chesters and Mendhams, will officiate the service, which begins at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 18 at St. Luke’s.
