It's Official: Duarte Wins Mendham Township Committee Race
After a pandemic-extended election style, the results are finally in.
MENDHAM, NJ— Mendham Township had one seat available on the township committee and Democrat Amalia Duarte successfully staved off Republican George Williams to retain it after a pandemic extended election cycle.
According to the final tallies, certified by the Morris County Clerk the totals were:

- Amalia Duarte: 2,146
- George Williams: 1,849
But Duarte didn't wait for the certification process, she claimed victory in the election last week.
"I am excited to announce that I have won my bid for re-election," Duarte posted to social media over the weekend. "I appreciate the bipartisan support and look forward to serving the community for a second term, trying to make a positive difference in our community. Thank you to everyone who helped in my campaign."

Since the change to this year's election was announced by Gov. Phil Murphy because of the coronavirus, there were been many questions about how the process worked. The primarily vote-by-mail process, in tandem with the extended deadlines to receive votes pushed the certification day to "on or about Nov. 20."
