Lighting Strike Hits Tree, Gas Line In Chester: PD

Both the tree and gas line caught fire when a bolt of lighting struck on Wednesday.

CHESTER, NJ — A lighting strike set a tree ablaze and ruptured a gas line in Chester Wednesday afternoon, Chester Police Chief Thomas Williver said.

A tree at 8 Ashland Terrace was struck around 3:45 p.m. on Wednesday during the afternoon thunderstorms. Both the tree and a nearby gas line were on fire when officers arrived, Williver said.

PSE&G made repairs to the ruptured line, and the Chester Volunteer Fire Department extinguished the tree and ground fires.

There was no damage to the home at all, Williver said.
