Marijuana Sales Could Be Banned In Chester Twp

The town is looking into ordinances to ban the sale of marijuana within the township.

CHESTER TOWNSHIP, NJ — Chester Township has begun looking into banning the sale of marijuana within township limits, Councilman Mike Inganamort said.

The council asked the planning board and the township attorney to begin drafting ordinances that would ban selling, growing, and processing marijuana within the town. They're also looking at how to ban the sale or possession on public property, including parks.

Chester Township is not the first town to ban marijuana sales ahead of a probable recreational legalization in New Jersey. Fellow Morris County town Chatham voted in April to ban recreational sales. Towns around the state, including Secaucus, Wyckoff, Bridgewater, Surf City, Middletown, Old Bridge, and Berkeley have either banned or are looking into banning pot sales in their towns.
