Towns agree to change policing staff, will save more money in coming year.

Mendham, N.J. – After splitting from shared services with Mendham Township, Mendham Borough signed on with Chester Borough to save costs in the department of the weekly municipal court.
And over the course of the first year, 2015, Mendham saved quite a bit of money.
Mayor Neil Henry announced this month the town saved just over $40,000 through the shared services agreement, and will likely save more in the coming year.

“At the request of the Mayor and Council, (Chester) Mayor (Janet) Hoven has agreed to hire a Special Class II officer to supplement court security at a rate of $20 per hour,” Henry said in a statement. “This will eliminate the need to place Mendham Borough Police sergeants as security monitors which costs us almost triple the rate of a special class II officer. Chester Borough will bill us for the Class II officer and the additional savings will be realized in the salary line item in the police department.”
