Mendham Volunteers Needed For Spring Stream Cleanup

There are several other cleanup sites in the county, too, including in Mendham Borough, Roxbury Township, and Washington Township.

MENDHAM TOWNSHIP, NJ — Roll up your sleeves and help Mendham neighbors keep local waterways clean at the annual Raritan Headwaters Stream Cleanup Event this April.

The Mendham Township Environmental Commission is looking for volunteers to clear litter from stream bank edges, walking paths, access points, and parking areas. There will be two sites in the township this year: Buttermilk Falls and Wysong Park.

The 34th annual cleanup event will be Saturday, April 20 from 9 a.m. to noon. Raritan Headwaters will be providing trash bags, gloves, and hand sanitizer. Participants are asked to dress appropriately in sturdy shoes and long sleeves to protect from insects and tree branches.

There are several other sites in the county, too, including in Mendham Borough, Roxbury Township, and Washington Township. The Raritan Watershed is the largest in New Jersey, according to the Headwaters Association, which works to keep the watershed clean.

"Safeguarding these 'headwaters' means clean, safe water for 300,000 watershed residents and 1.5 million New Jerseyans living downstream in more urban areas that depend on the water that comes from our rivers and reservoirs," the group said.
