Proposed Housing Project To Bring 75 Units To Mendham Borough
The applicant initially pulled the project, which was scheduled to be presented in February, in order to make some changes.
MENDHAM, NJ — Following the recent announcement of a new 111-unit housing development proposed for a nearly century-old convent, another application for a separate multi-family residential development has been resubmitted.
The applicant, V-Fee Mendham Apartments LLC, was supposed to present their proposal at the joint land use meeting on Feb. 23, but withdrew the application at the last minute to make additional changes, according to Mendham Borough mayor Christine Glassner.
The 75-unit housing development is planned for 84 E Main Street in Mendham, which is currently the site of a local shopping center.

According to the application, the site plans also call for the improvement of the surrounding shopping area.
If approved, the proposal, which will be heard on Mar. 21, will allow for the construction of a multi-story residential development with a maximum height of 60 feet. The breakdown of the units includes 15 affordable housing units and 60 market-rate units.

The application states that there will be a mixture of one, two, and three-bedroom units.
Also included in the project proposal is a pool on the first floor, a business center, a yoga studio and a spa.
Some residents have previously expressed concerns about the building's height on social media. The surrounding shopping area is made up of one-story buildings, so the addition of a 60-foot structure has some people worried about the contrast.
Testimony for this application will be heard on Mar. 21 at 7:30 p.m. at the Garabrant Center, which is located at 4 Wilson Street. Testimony is also scheduled for the proposed development of the Sisters of Christian Charity convent on Bernardsville Road.
That application proposes converting the former "motherhouse" on the property of the Sisters of Christian Charity into a 94-unit apartment building, as well as converting other structures on the property into an additional 17 units, for a total of 111 dwelling units.
The Sisters of Christian Charity have served the church and the local community on the former Cromwell Estate since the 1920s.
