Retired Cop In Critical Condition From Injuries On Police Unity Tour Ride
Roxbury Township's Lt. Joe Franklin was injured in Far Hills Monday on the first day of the 320-mile bike ride to Washington D.C.

Editor's note: A previous version of this article inaccurately stated former Lt. Joe Franklin died as a result of his injuries sustained during the Police Unity Tour based on incorrect information provided to Patch. As of 8 p.m. Tuesday, Franklin was still in critical condition.
Lt. Joe Franklin “sustained serious injuries from an accident while on his bike,” Roxbury Township Police announced early Tuesday.
A Morristown Medical Center spokesperson confirmed Franklin was in critical condition Tuesday night.

Franklin suffered the injuries just south of Morris County, in Far Hills, according to nj.com. The Police Unity Tour is a 320-mile bike ride for current and retired officers who ride to Washington D.C. with the slogan, “We Ride For Those Who Died.”
The event is meant to bring awareness to police officers who’ve died in the line of duty and originated in Florham Park in 1997.
