Scammers Pretending To Be Chester Police, Department Warns
If someone claims they are from the police and attempts to solicit money from you, hang up, then call Chester police directly, police said.
CHESTER, NJ — The Chester Police Department is warning residents about a phone scam where the caller claims to be with the police department.
Residents who have received one of the calls told police the scammer was attempting to solicit money and used a "spoofing" device that made it appear the call was coming from the Chester Police Department's phone number, 908-879-5514, on Caller ID.
"We have never, nor will we ever solicit funds from residents or anyone else in this manner. Should you receive a phone call like this by an individual(s) claiming to be this agency, it is a scam," police said.
