Section Of Pitney Farm To Be Put Up For Auction By Mendham Twp
The historic home was destroyed in an early 2016 fire.

MENDHAM, NJ — Five acres of Pitney Farm will be put up for auction this fall, Mayor Richard P. Diegnan said in an August letter.
"Currently, five acres of the Pitney Farm property are scheduled to be put up for sale by public bid this Fall. The sale of Pitney will address the badly damaged buildings as well as potentially create a new neighborhood and further pay down the debt associated with the Pitney Farm purchase," Diegnan wrote. It's unclear exactly when that auction will take place.
While five acres will be put up for sale, its unclear what the future holds for the over seven acres. A previous proposal would have divided the land into three plots: one kept as open protected space, a municipal lot, and a residential development section.

The main home on the Pitney Farm property was destroyed in a fire in Feb. 2016. The home suffered a partial collapse, and was considered a total loss. It dated back to the early 1700s; no one was living in the home at the time of the fire.
Officials said the fire was caused by a "human act," but its unclear what happened with the investigation. Patch has reached out to the Morris County Prosecutor's Office for more information.
