Skating Rink At Mendham Park Now Open For The Season
The cold winter weather in Morris County has been tough this week, but it also brings a silver lining: ice skating.
MENDHAM, NJ — The chilly winter weather across Morris County has been tough this week, but it also comes with its perks—namely, ice skating.
According to an update from Mendham Borough officials, the ice skating rink, which opens when weather and ice conditions permit, is now safe for skating. Residents are invited to head down to Mountain Valley Park Pond, located on Mountain Avenue in Mendham Borough, to enjoy the ice.
Skating on the pond is permitted whenever the ice reaches a depth of approximately six inches, according to officials. Signs will be posted to inform residents when the ice is thick enough for safe skating.

As of Wednesday, the ice is safe to skate on.

- No town supervision is provided.
- Do not skate on the pond when “NO SKATING” signs are posted.
- Exercise caution while skating, as ice conditions can change throughout the day.
- Never skate alone.
- Avoid gathering in large groups on the ice.
- Be aware of areas where ice is covered by snow.
- Steer clear of cracks, seams, pressure ridges, and slushy areas.
- Ice fishing is prohibited.
This week, Morris County is bracing for some of the coldest temperatures of the winter so far, according to forecasters. A statewide cold weather advisory has been issued through 12 p.m. Wednesday, with wind chills expected to drop as low as 10 below zero, according to the National Weather Service. In such extreme conditions, frostbite can develop in just minutes.
Wednesday is forecasted to see wind chills reaching only the teens, according to the National Weather Service.

- Wednesday: Sunny, with a high near 18. Wind chill values as low as -2. Calm wind becoming north around 5 mph.
- Wednesday Night: Increasing clouds, with a low around 6. Calm wind.
- Thursday: Cloudy through mid-morning, then gradual clearing, with a high near 27. Calm wind becoming southwest around 5 mph in the morning.
- Thursday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 13. West wind around 5 mph.
- Friday: Sunny, with a high near 29.
- Friday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 9.
