Special Meeting Scheduled To Discuss Future of Chester Borough PD
Topics for the Nov. 14 meeting include: retaining the department or entering a shared service agreement with Chester Twp.

CHESTER, N.J.– Chester Borough Officials on Nov. 14 will discuss whether or not to hire a new police chief and keep the department or enter into a shared service agreement with Chester Township.
At the meeting, which is slated for 7 p.m. inside the Chester Borough municipal building (50 North Road), officials in a news release said they will weigh the following options:
- Keep the department, hire a new chief and additional officer, which will bring the staff total to eight full-time officers, or increase the department size to 11 officers;
- Enter into an agreement with the Chester Township Police Department to provide patrol services from 6 p.m until 6 a.m. inside the borough.
By increasing the staff, the borough will have two officers on duty 24/7, officials said.

In entering a shared service agreement, the six current borough officers would be reassigned to the township department, which would be known as Chester Police, officials said.
Those officers would become township employees, officials added.
