NEW JERSEY— A Canadian food company is recalling hummus it made sold under the Wegmans supermarket brand due to an undeclared ingredient that could pose an allergy risk, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

The hummus topped with harissa made by Summer Fresh Salads Inc. might contain sesame, although the label does not list the seed as an ingredient. The Wegmans brand hummus was sold between Jan. 29 and Feb. 2 in New Jersey and seven other East Coast states and the District of Columbia.

The sesame ingredient was left off the products due to a "labelling error," according to the FDA. No illnesses linked to the spread had been reported as of Friday. Sesame is now the ninth most common food allergen in the U.S., which prompted the FDA in 2023 to institute a new rule requiring it to be listed on ingredients labels.
