MIDDLETOWN, NJ — Construction starts Monday, June 23, on Monmouth County's project to replace the bridge over the Swimming River on Swimming River Road (Rt. 50).
This is the bridge on Swimming River Road facing the dam, in the Lincroft section of Middletown, approaching Tinton Falls.
"Construction is expected to begin on or about June 23 and continue for two years, but Swimming River Road will remain open throughout construction,” said Commissioner Director Tom Arnone on June 20.

The bridge will be entirely replaced: The existing bridge will be replaced with a modern concrete and steel structure designed to meet today’s safety and accessibility standards, said the county. The new bridge will feature wider travel lanes, dedicated safety shoulders, new sidewalks, upgraded guide rail and decorative stone veneer architectural enhancements.
There will likely be temporary changes to traffic flows on Swimming River Road over the next two years.

"Two 11-foot-wide travel ways in each direction will be maintained," said the county. "We remind drivers in the area to follow all posted signs during construction."
It's a $10.17 million project and the contractor is Marbro Inc. of Montclair. Funding is being provided by the New Jersey Department of Transportation - County Aid.
That bridge is technically called Bridge S-14.
