Dollar General May Reapply To Open In North Middletown
Dollar General pulled their application, but Patch is hearing they may reapply later this spring, at the same spot on Leonardville Road:
MIDDLETOWN, NJ — Earlier this March, it was big news when Dollar General proposed to open right next to the empty Wells Fargo bank building at 62 and 74 Leonardville Road in Belford.
However, they pulled their application before the Middletown Planning Board after significant community resistance:
Many residents who live in that area were upset, and about a dozen people attended the March 6 Planning Board meeting to voice their opposition to a Dollar General opening in that area.

Dollar General withdrew their application from the Middletown Planning Board, said Mayor Tony Perry. At the time, they were seeking more than 10 variances from the Board.
However, Patch is hearing they may reapply later this spring, at the same location. They would seek approval for fewer variances should they re-apply.

Dollar General Pulls Application To Open First Middletown Store (March 7)
In related news, the Middletown Family Dollar on Rt. 36 IS indeed closing.
The store, located at 6 Hwy. 36 east, currently has "store closing" signs up in the windows. On March 13, their parent company announced it is shutting down 1,000 Family Dollar and Dollar Tree stores nationwide.
