Tinton Falls Man Fired Gun At People From Car In Asbury Park, Prosecutor Says

The Tinton Falls man was indicted on first-degree attempted murder charges for the Sept. 18 shooting.

TINTON FALLS, NJ — A Monmouth County grand jury returned a five-count indictment against a Tinton Falls man for a September shooting in Asbury Park, Monmouth County Prosecutor Raymond Santiago announced Friday.

Zion Langhorne, 24, was charged with first-degree Attempted Murder, second-degree Unlawful Possession of a Weapon (handgun), second-degree Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose, second-degree Certain Persons Not to Possess a Weapon and second-degree Eluding.

The prosecutor said he fired a gun from a car in Asbury Park on Sept. 13.

Just after 5 p.m. on that date, Asbury Park Police responded to the 1200 block of Washington Avenue for a 911 call of shots fired. Upon arrival, detectives determined three shots were fired from a vehicle at a group of individuals.

Nobody was hit by the gunfire.

Detectives with the prosecutor's office Major Crimes Bureau and Asbury Park Police quickly identified Langhorne as the shooter (they did not say how), and police stopped his car later that same day, said the prosecutor. While stopped by law enforcement, Langhorne fled the scene, ignored commands to stop, and committed multiple dangerous driving violations, said police.

With the help of U.S. Marshals, he was arrested and taken into custody Sept. 18.
