WEATHER ALERT: Dangerous 15-Below Wind Chills Pose Threat to New Jersey, Pennsylvania

A wind chill advisory has been declared for Wednesday and Thursday, as hazardous, cold winds will sink temperatures to 15 degrees below 0.

Dangerously cold winds are coming to New Jersey and parts of Pennsylvania on Wednesday and Thursday.

The National Weather Service has declared a Wind Chill Advisory for the New York Metro area for 7 p.m. Wednesday, through 8 a.m. Thursday. With the advisory comes wind chill readings as low as 15 below.

The Montclair, N.J. Ambulance Unit relayed the message that these frigid conditions can be dangerous to anyone outside and that extended exposure can lead to frost bite and hypothermia.

“If you must venture outdoors, make sure you wear a hat and gloves,” the Montclair Ambulance Unit directed in a statement Tuesday afternoon. The unit added that residents are urged to check on the elderly and bring pets indoors.

Officials said temperatures will remain below freezing in New Jersey and eastern Pennsylvania until at least Friday, with low temperatures Thursday morning in the single digits and wind chills well below zero. Also, winds will be blustery on Wednesday with gusts approaching 40 mph.

Temperatures will continue to drop to a low of around 17 degrees this evening, with just a 30 percent chance of precipitation, the NWS adds.
