Montclair Public Schools Deemed "High Performing"

The New Jersey State Department of Education has deemed the Montclair Public Schools as "high performing" in five key areas following a recent performance review, the Montclair school district announced in a statement.

The news was released on the district's website Tuesday, the same day its biennial ranking of public high schools showing that Montclair High School had fallen from 94th to 99th place between 2010 and 2012.

According to the school district's statement, public schools here underwent a Quality Single Accountability Continuum (QSAC) district performance review during the spring.

The district received high scores in the following: Instruction and Program (87%), Fiscal Management (100%), Governance (100%), Operations (95%) and Personnel (100%).

The QSAC is the Department of Education’s monitoring and evaluation system for public school districts. The system focuses on monitoring and evaluating school districts in five key components that, based on research, have been identified to be key factors in effective school districts.

According to the official document outlining the results, “Acting Commissioner [Christopher] Cerf will recommend to the State Board of Education that the district be certified as providing a thorough and efficient system of education for a period of three years or until the next QSAC review.”

“We are proud of the hard work that each and every member of the Montclair Public Schools’ team has contributed to this successful evaluation,” said Interim Schools Superintendent Clarence Hoover.

Hoover will serve as superintendent until Nov. 1, 2012,
