Police: Reports of Theft, Robbery and an Arrest
Information from the August 12 MPD Police Blotter.

Robbery - On Monday August 11 at 11:53 p.m. officers responded to a report of an armed robbery at the Shell Gas Station on Bloomfield Avenue. The victim said that he was walking in the parking lot of the Gas Station when he was approached by three males. One of the suspects brandished a silver folding knife and demanded that he turn over his property. The suspects took a black Jansport book bag and fled on foot, north on Pine Street. This book bag contained a pair of Nike Sneakers valued at $60. The suspects are described as #1 black male, approx. 20-yoa, 6’3 with a thin build, short dreadlocks, wearing a red hooded sweatshirt and cargo pants. #2 black male, approx. 20-yoa, 5’7 with a thin build, white t-shirt, long dreadlocks. #3 black male, approx. 20-yoa, wearing a white t-shirt. Burglary - On Monday August 11 officers responded to Brunswick Road on a report of a burglary. The victim, a construction worker at the home, stated that at 3:00 p.m. he observed two males walking out of the side door of this residence. The victim went to the basement and noticed that his NY Yankees baseball cap and $20 were missing from his personal belongings in the basement. The suspects are described as #1 black male, approx. 40yoa, tall with a heavy build, clean shaven, wearing a white t-shirt and baseball cap with no logo. #2 black male, 30-35yoa, average height with a thin build, short hair and clean-shaven. Arrest - On Sunday August 10, Officers responded to Claremont Avenue and North Willow Street on a report of a hit-and-run accident. Witnesses observed a black Acura TL rear-end a vehicle and flee the scene. Officers located and stopped this Acura on Elm Street. The operator, Okien Green (30-yoa from East Orange) was found to have multiple warrants out of Montclair ($600), East Orange ($700), West Orange ($464) and Newark ($200). He also had his 6-year-old daughter in the vehicle. This child was sitting in a car seat, which was not properly secured to the vehicle. Green was placed under arrest on these warrants. He was also issued numerous motor vehicle summonses. The child was turned over to a family member at headquarters. Officers observed damage to Mr. Green’s vehicle, consistent with having been in this accident. There were no injuries reported.

Theft - On Saturday August 9 at 4:30 p.m. a laptop was stolen from the customer area of the downtown Starbucks, located at 40 South Park St. The laptop had been left charging, for approximately one hour, while the owner sat in the outside seating area. When the owner returned inside to retrieve the laptop, he saw that it had been taken. The laptop is described as a 17” purple Dell Laptop with a “Kale Is Cool” sticker on the cover. Burglary - On Wednesday August 6 officers responded to a Chestnut Street residence on a report of a burglary. The victim stated that between August 2 and August 5, unknown person(s) entered their apartment through a first floor window. Taken in this incident was clothing and numerous pairs of sneakers.
