Robber Snatches iPad from Boy

Police ask for the public's help in finding a man who robbed a child near Glenfield Park on Monday afternoon.

 

Montclair police are asking for the public's help in identifying a man who stole an iPad from the hands of a 12-year-old boy Monday afternoon.

The boy, who was not identified, was walking along Elmwood Avenue towards Mission Street just after 5 p.m. when he was approached by a light-skinned man, 18 to 20 years old, with shoulder-length curly hair, police said.

The man, wearing jeans and a green t-shirt with the words "Tap Out" in white letters, snatched the iPad from the boy and ran north on Mission Street, police said. The man flagged down a green four-door Toyota Sedan and got inside. The car was last seen heading north on Mission Street.

The boy was not injured.

"There are no leads as of yet. This was just given to a detective today," said Detective Lt. Angel L. Roman Jr., detective bureau commander.

He added that the fact the iPad was snatched from the boy's hands—indicating the use of force—makes the incident a strong-arm robbery.
