Violent Crime Rates Rise in Montville, Nonviolent Crimes Fall

Montville saw more incidents of violent crime, but fewer incidents of nonviolent crime in the first half of 2014 compared to 2013.

New Jersey State Police have released their Uniform Crime Report for the first two quarters of 2014. According to their reports, Montville’s overall crime index has fallen from 96 to 80 in the last year, a 17 percent increase in overall crime.

Montville saw only one incident of violent crime between January and June of 2013, and 5 such incidents in the same period of 2014. Despite the small numbers, that’s a 400 percent increase in violent crime.

Nonviolent crime declined by 30 percent: Montville Police reported 82 nonviolent crimes in the first half of 2013, and 57 in the first half of 2014.
