1 Killed, 3 Seriously Injured In Crash Near Rest Stop In Burlington Co.: Police

A passenger was ejected from one of the vehicles and sustained fatal injuries, authorities said.

MOUNT LAUREL, NJ — One person is dead and three others were seriously injured after a crash Monday outside a turnpike rest stop in Burlington County, authorities said.

The crash happened around 2:10 p.m. on the New Jersey Turnpike North, on the ramp to enter the James Fenimore Cooper Service Area in Mount Laurel, said State Police Tpr. Christopher Postorino.

A commercial vehicle with an attached trailer was parked on the right shoulder of the ramp after a mechanical malfunction. A Hyundai passenger vehicle then got on the ramp to enter the rest stop, drove onto the right shoulder and rear-ended the parked vehicle, Postorino said.

A passenger was ejected from the Hyundai and sustained fatal injuries, Postorino said. The Hyundai driver and two of their other passengers were seriously injured and brought to the hospital.

State Police withheld all names and identifying information on Wednesday, pending notification to next of kin.

No other injuries were reported at the scene.

The crash remains under investigation, and no other information is available at this time, police said.
