2 Hospitalized In Railroad Crash In Burlington Co.: Police

A car collided with a plow-like vehicle that maintains the railway, authorities said.

HAINESPORT, NJ — Two people were hospitalized after a car and a railway vehicle collided at a railroad crossing Wednesday afternoon in Burlington County, authorities said.

A Kershaw Ballast Regulator — a plow-like vehicle that maintains railways — collided with a Honda passenger vehicle around 1:15 p.m. in Hainesport, authorities said.

A passenger in the Honda was "seriously" injured, while the driver sustained "moderate" injuries, said Tpr. Christopher Postorino, a State Police spokesperson.

Both were brought to a local hospital. Their current conditions weren't immediately available.

No other injuries were reported.

The crash happened within a railroad crossing on Hainesport-Mount Laurel Road, authorities said. The railway is a Conrail line for freight trains.

The Honda had been traveling up Hainesport-Mount Laurel Road when the Kershaw vehicle was moving eastbound and collided with it, Postorino said.

It's unclear what caused the accident.

The crash remains under investigation, with no other information available as of Thursday morning, officials said.
