Boy, 12, Killed In NJ Fire That Displaced 22 Families: Report
The Sunday night fire hospitalized six people, including a firefighter, according to one report. Here's the latest:
MAPLE SHADE, NJ - A 12-year-old boy was killed and his mother and sister are in critical condition following a Sunday evening fire at a South Jersey apartment complex that displaced 22 families, according to an NJ Advance Media report.
The fire was reported shortly before 10:30 p.m. at the Fox Meadows apartment complex on Adams Drive in Maple Shade, according to a Nixle alert from police.
"Upon arrival police units found heavy smoke and fire coming from the roof of the apartments," Maple Shade police said in a statement, noting that the Adams Drive residents were evacuated as firefighters responded to the scene.

The fire was placed under control at around 11:45 p.m., police said.
Five residents and a firefighter were hospitalized in the two-alarm blaze, according to Fox29. 16 units were damaged in total, police said.

The New Jersey Red Cross’ Disaster Action Team has already provided emergency assistance for temporary lodging, food, & clothing to 40 people from 12 families and will “continue to assist other families” on Monday, the organization said on a Twitter post.
Ross DiMattei of CBS Philadelphia reported that the agency is awaiting to hear from the rest of the 62 individuals from 22 families displaced as a result of the fire to provide additional housing and financial aid.
The fire is under investigation by the New Jersey Fire Marshall's Office, The Burlington County Fire Marshall's Office, the Maple Shade Fire Department, Burlington County Prosecutor’s Office and the Maple Shade Police Department.
A request for comment from the Maple Shade Fire Department was not immediately returned Monday morning.
