BOE Selects Community Volunteer for Vacant Seat

Members of the board of education selected former Moorestown Education Foundation (MEF) president Robert Hill to fill the open seat on the board Monday, after considering a half-dozen other applicants.

The seat was left vacant after , just a few months before her term was up.

Board President Don Mishler said the board interviewed seven total candidates, including . However, those individuals were ultimately taken out of the running because of their candidacy.

“We shouldn’t usurp the right of the voters to pick the candidates,” explained Mishler.

In the end, the board unanimously chose Hill, who served as president of the MEF for several years, and has been active in fundraising for the school district and in various township athletic clubs, according to Mishler.

“He’s been active in the community, and supportive of the schools,” the board president said. “His three children have gone through the school district.”

Mishler said he was pleased with the response the district got in seeking applicants for the vacant seat.

“I’m gratified so many people volunteered for what is a pretty thankless short-term job,” said Mishler, noting that Hill’s interim tenure will expire on Jan. 3, when the newly elected board members are sworn in.

The school board also unanimously voted to hire Brian Carter as the new principal at . Carter was formerly the assistant principal at , as well as the former district supervisor of math at the Lawrence Township Public School District and former STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) supervisor for Moorestown.  

The board of education will hold its next regular meeting at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 16, at .
