Check Out the New-and-Improved Rec Center at Grand Reopening

There'll be plenty to do and see at the upgraded facility immediately following the Moorestown Lions Club Holiday Parade on Saturday.

To the editor:

The Moorestown Township Council and Department of Parks and Recreation is pleased to announce the grand reopening of the Church Street Recreation Center, scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 7, following the annual Lions Club Holiday Parade on Main Street.

The newly renovated space will host the annual MoorArts Holiday Arts Festival, which showcases a K-12 student art exhibit, youthful musical performances by local students, seasonal and original musical numbers, and winter-inspired make-and-take children’s crafts. The festival is family-friendly, open to all ages, and will be held on the third floor of the recreation center.

The grand reopening will also feature a food drive to benefit Live Civilly and the Moorestown Ministerium/Live Civilly Food Pantry, located at St. Matthew Lutheran Church on Chester Avenue.

As part of the new improvements to the municipal complex plans, the rec center has undergone an internal facelift to update the basketball courts and create volleyball and pickleball courts. Additionally, as part of the renovations, new restrooms and Department of Recreation offices have been created to make the facility fully functional and accessible to all Moorestown residents. When the center reopens to its full capacity and use in January 2014, it will be home to the Recreation Center Open Gym Program, yoga classes, indoor tennis, Tumblin’ Tots, dance, ballet, hip-hop, recreation basketball, and Live Civilly Homework Help. Weekly programs for special needs students and their families will also be scheduled, as well as Zumba, CASA, Young Life and CPR classes.
