County Offering C.E.R.T. Classes for Civic-Minded

The classes begin Tuesday at the Emergency Services Training Center in Westampton.

The Burlington County Sheriff’s Department will offer a new round of C.E.R.T. (Community Emergency Response Team) classes beginning Tuesday.

The schedule is as follows:

  • Session 1 (Jan. 10)  CERT Overview & Disaster Preparedness
  • Session 2 (Jan. 17)  Fire Safety
  • Session 3 (Jan. 19)  Light Search and Rescue
  • Session 4 (Jan. 24)  Medical Operations (Part 1)
  • Session 5 (Jan. 31)  Medical Operations (Part 2)
  • Session 6 (Feb. 7)  Terrorism
  • Session 7 (Feb. 14)  Disaster Psychology
  • Session 8 (Feb. 15)  Disaster Simulation and graduation.

The classes will be held from 6:30-9 p.m at the Emergency Services Training Center (ESTC) at 53 Academy Drive in Westampton. Session 8 will be held at the ESTC building training bay.

Sessions 3 and 8 involve minor physical requirements. Sessions 4 and 5 involve medical simulation and bandaging. Part of Session 8 (fire extinguisher training) will be conducted outside. The sheriff’s department advises students to dress accordingly for all the training sessions, according to a release from the county.

Students must attend all the classes to receive a graduation certificate. If they’re unable to attend a class, make-up classes will be scheduled to meet graduation requirements. Students will be issued books on the first day of class, which they may keep.

This course will also help those who want to become a C.A.R.T. (County Animal Response Team) member.

The Sheriff’s Department will be offering additional courses to help build residents’ skills so they can safeguard themselves, their family and the community.
