Fairy Tale Opening for MTC's 10th Anniversary
The Moorestown Theater Company will put on "Rapunzel" and a "Princess Sing-Along" beginning Wednesday at Hope Community Church.
One princess per show not enough? How about six?
(MTC) kicks off its 10th anniversary season with a musical doubleheader Wednesday: the classic fairy tale Rapunzel, followed by the Princess Sing-Along.
The show(s), MTC’s 53rd, features a cast of 27 children, from 6 up to 15 years old, said artistic director Mark Morgan.
“Traditionally, we’ve done a show around a fairy tale,” Morgan said, explaining in previous years they’ve performed Sleeping Beauty and Cinderella. “The stories themselves are pretty short … We always get so many girls out that there aren’t enough parts,” hence the Princess Sing-Along.
For the sing-along, a cast of seven girls (two girls will play Rapunzel) take the stage for solo performances as classic Disney princesses, including Ariel (Little Mermaid) and Pocahontas. Audience members are encouraged to come dressed as their favorite princesses—boys can come as superheroes—and sing along.
Don’t know the words? No need to worry—they’ll be projected onto a screen above the stage.
“It’s a good excuse to have a winter Halloween,” said Morgan. “It’s a great way to introduce children to live theater, with characters they know and love, and can sing along to. That’s why we kick our year off every year with this.”
The show opens with a 5 p.m. performance Wednesday at , followed by a 5 p.m. performance Thursday, and shows at 5 and 8 p.m. Friday and 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. Saturday. Tickets are $10.
