Firefighters Snuff Out Early Morning Garage Fire

The blaze was ruled an accident, but an exact cause is still undetermined.

Crews from fire districts 1 and 2 quickly knocked down a garage fire that broke out early Monday morning near Lenola Road.

Firefighters were dispatched to 612 Grand Ave. around 5 a.m., according to Cindi Maahs-Knobbs, fire marshal for Fire District 2. Crews from both fire districts were called to the scene.

Fortunately, firefighters had the blaze under control within about 10 minutes, she said. However, the garage was almost completely destroyed.

Maahs-Knobbs said flames had burnt through the roof of the structure, and while the fire did not go through one section of the roof, it had gotten into the rafters and the garage was deemed unsafe.

Though she ruled the fire accidental, Maahs-Knobbs said the exact cause is still under investigation.
